Hi!
This is the Pruis family journal of our experience trying the 40-day "maker's Diet" from Jordan Rubin.
I decided to start this blog/journal to chronicle our experience.
We are going to start our "diet" sometime during the first week of January. While we could begin with the mainenence foods, we decided to try the entire diet to detoxify. Also this will give us the experience of the diet so we can better help others who would like to do this.
WHY?
Justin and I believe in food to live and believe that God provided all foods needed to live a healthy life on earth. The American Diet is severely lacking in healthy foods and most of the standard beliefs about food and nutrition are false and propagated by whatever industry is trying to sell us something.
WHAT?
What is the Maker's Diet? It's eating foods in the form God created them in. Not just meats, veggies, fruits, eggs and dairy, but in their most natural form, as well. For instance, most meat at the store is corn-fed, and full of unhealthy fats and not many nutrients. But organic, grass-fed meats are closer to the form God intended us to have.
Other ideas about the Maker's Diet are about eating "live" foods, cultured, fermented, sprouted.
The main purpose of this journal for me is to write about our experience and hurdles of doing this, and also to stick with it better.
Here are some things that I think will be the hardest for us to accomplish:
1. Our Sugar Addiction. I think I am addicted to sugar! It will be hard to give up pop the most.
2. Our fast-food (or convenience) Addiction: I am not sure if we are addicted to the food itself or just the convenience factor. One of my biggest problems is not planning well for meals, and falling into the convenience trap.
3. Our kids' resistance: Some of the Maker's diet we can skip for the kids. (Some days involve fasting). But we will have to make some drastic changes for them and that won't be easy for us to stick with.
Why the Pruis? While our family is generally healthy, we still want to achieve optimal health for us and especially for our kids. We get lots of colds, and are easily fatigued and depressed. Hopefully this will change for us. We will soon find out! We also believe in this whole foods thing so much we want to help others but we need to practice what we preach.
So, follow along and learn with us!!!
